Response to the student post: Describe and analyze Victor’s reaction to his creature’s first moment of “life.” Does his reaction surprise you???

“My limbs now tremble and my eyes swim with the remembrance; but then a resistless, and almost frantic, impulse urged me forward; I seemed to have lost all soul or sensation but for this one pursuit….and I shunned my fellow-creatures as if I

had been guilty of a crime. (3)” Victor designed this monster to be a piece of art in the science field with tall and muscular body, dark hair, shiny teeth, but the product did not match his expectation “Devil,…do you dare approach me?  and do not you fear the fierce vengeance of my arm wreaked on your miserable head?  Begone, vile insect! or rather, stay, that I may trample you to dust!and, on! that I could with the extinction of your miserable existence, restore those victims whom you have so diabolically murdered! (10)”. The hideousness of the creature made victor feel sick and disgusted, he wants to be away from the monster as fast as possible, his creation was a disaster in his perspective. He had a disturbed night, waking up with the monster standing by his side, the first thing he did was rushing out of his place to keep distance with his horrifying creation.

I am surprised. The monster is such a magnificent creation, Victor surprisingly turned the dead to alive again, all the researches he did fulfill his dream, even though the creature is ugly. I guess that’s a strategy Mary Shelley applied to catch the readers attention.
